About the University of Worcester

The University of Worcester is located in the city of Worcester in the United Kingdom, with its base in the regions of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. It is a public research university established in the year 1946 as an emergency teacher training college for Birmingham University with the support of a former RAF site.

In the year 1976, the college got validation for the degree for Worcester College of Higher Education by the National Academic Awards under, EG, Peirson. Following this, the Privy Council in 1997 declared the degree-awarding authority of the institute, and it achieved recognition as the University College of Worcester. And as a result, in the year 2005, the council granted the position of the university, and it was renamed the University of Worcester as per the present name. The university underwent vast growth and gained many new university campuses across Worcester city in the UK.

According to the Times Higher Education’s University Impact Rankings, The University of Worcester has been ranked in the top 3 in the United Kingdom for Quality Education for three consecutive years – 2019, 2020, and 2021. And according to the Times Higher Education University, The University of Worcester has been shortlisted three times as the Year – in 2016, 2019, and 2020. And twice for the University of the Year in the UK Social Mobility Awards – in the years 2019 and 2020. 

In the year 2021, the University of Worcester’s ranking ranges between 101–200th, according to the Times Higher Education.  The University of Worcester is at #237 in the category of undergraduate programs, according to the QS ranking.

University of Worcester Infrastructure 

The University has three main campuses along with a Lakeside university Campus. The three main ones are St John’s University Campus, and second City Campus, and the third Severn Campus. 

Out of the three main campuses of the university, the St John’s Campus is the first campus. It is considered the primary base for all the courses, departments, and academic institutes. It is the largest and major campus and is located in the St John’s area, Worcester, in the UK. 

The City Campus is the second campus of the University of Worcester and is a pleasurable walk of approx 20-25 minutes from the St John’s Campus. The university’s reward-winning library, The Hive, is located on this university campus. The University Severn Campus includes the indoor sports arena of Britain, The University Athena. This campus is located between the other two university campuses. 

The Lakeside is a wonderful center for outdoor learning, studying, and activities. It takes approx 10-15 minutes to drive out there from the university’s main campus. 

The university has really improved state-of-the-art analytical labs and research facilities or services. They have Pollen and Aerobiology Research Group, Sustainable Environments Research Group, and Worcester Biomedical Research Group. Every group focuses on different-different research areas based on their topic. 

The university presents a comprehensive wide range of courses, starting from Finance and Accounting to Criminology to Theatre, Acting, and Performance BA. They provide around 250 courses apprenticeship, under undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

Academics at the University of Worcester in UK

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service or UCAS is responsible or answerable for the candidate’s application management at the University of Worcester in the UK. Each potential candidate within the UK, EU, or even internationally will have to apply by UCAS. 

After the application is submitted, the candidates can keep track or check them through the UCAS website. The application will be reviewed or checked by the group of the University of Worcester, and they will make a decision upon whether to call the candidate for an interview, provide them unconditional or conditional offers, or reject their application. 

But sometimes university team the candidate is called for an interview before they are given the offer. After the acceptance of the offer, the candidate will be asked to visit the university, and following that, the university will call them to manage and handle the accommodation needs. 

Admission Cycle

The applications are accepted and allowed from the beginning of September every year, and the closing date is in every year of January month. The programs can even be studied part-time. For entry into part-time programs, applicants can apply between the months of September and January. 

University of Worcester Admission Needs

The basic and necessary University of Worcester admission needs include that the candidate must be 18 years old. If the candidate is at the age of 17, when they begin their programs, then also they will be eligible. However, if they are 17, then their parents will have to agree to a few extra protection and safety protocols. 

Apart from that, there are a few general entry needs as well. They include; 

  • The applier should possess a minimum of two GCE A level passes. 
  • BTEC Qualifications 
  • Completion of a relevant QAA authorized access diploma
  • OCR Nationals 
  • Achievement of the Welsh Baccalaureate 
  • Advanced GNQ if the applier passed it at the merit level
  • The minimum point of 24 in the International Baccalaureate and the minimum point of 60% in the European Baccalaureate
